Saddle Research and Development

Solution Saddles collaborates with Saddle Research Trust Research Associates in utilising new technology to scientifically
develop innovations in saddle performance.

Rapid Scanning

Solution Saddles is the first saddle company to use 3D technology to scientifically research and develop its innovative designs.

Through the careful analysis of the data, Solution Saddles is able to create truly symmetrical saddles that will improve performance.

The rapid scanner has also been used to create accurate templates of horses’ backs.

Pressure Sensor Mapping

Solution Saddles assesses pressure readings of their SMART™ saddles as part of ongoing research studies.

The CONFORMat pressure system provides comprehensive results for the entire saddle-bearing area of the horses’ back, including the gullet space – this is not possible with most pressure mapping systems.

Test results for SMART™ saddles are excellent: not only have peak pressures been eliminated, but the designs also show improved symmetry and overall reduced levels of pressure in comparison to many other makes of saddle.

Average recordings of a riders own saddle (left) and a correctly fitted SMART™ saddle (right) taken in trot, both using the same scale of measurement.

Example of pressure mat results bright colours
represent higher pressure & red is peak pressure.

Biomechanical Analysis

Solution Saddles has carried out many scientific research studies using biomechanical analysis, the results of which provide objective evidence that horse and rider performance is improved when using a Solution saddle.

A comparison of the same horse and rider in two different saddles. The SMART™ saddle on the right hand side demonstrates improved synchrony the horse, saddle and rider are more vertically aligned and symmetrical.

SRT

Solution Saddles is a research associate of the Saddle Research Trust, a charitable organisation that has been established to scientifically and objectively lead and support research into the influence of saddles on the welfare, performance and safety of horses and riders.

Solution Saddles regularly participates in rigorous and objective testing with the SRT.
